(Bitola, 17 April 2012) Celebrating 17 April, European Day of Youth Information, YMCY Bitola and Youth Forum – Bitola, both member organizations of the Coalition of youth organizations SEGA, organized meeting with the President of the Municipal Council of Bitola within the European campaign “Information right NOW – Young people are asking” implemented by ERYICA (European Youth Information and Counseling Agency) in cooperation with the Council of Europe.
The meeting was attended by around sixty young people, active in lobbying and advocacy the young people needs in their schools. At the meeting the participants acquired basic information about the function and work of the Municipal Council and the President of the Municipal Council in Bitola. Also they were introduced in the current mechanisms for citizen participation in these institutions. The mechanisms discussed in the meeting were:
- Working bodies (commissions) of the Municipal Council
- Formal request for written answer
- Complain and Compliment Box
- Direct contact via e-mail on the web site of the municipality
Young people had the opportunity to discuss the practical implementation and the need for improvement of these mechanisms with the President of the Municipal Council. They were especially interested in the work of the Commissions for youth and sport and the protection of the child rights, and as well they’ve asked about the activities implemented by the municipality concerning youth.
