CALL FOR MMUN 2018 CLUB COORDINATORS

Coalition of youth organizations SEGA implements the Macedonia Model United Nations (MMUN) programme. Macedonia Model United Nations (MMUN) is a program that encourages youth in high school and college throughout Macedonia to engage in current events, and develop an improved understanding of diplomacy and cross-cultural collaboration. MMUN is not politically affiliated; it encourages free speech and democratic processes. It empowers youth to develop solutions based on constructive debate with their peers, challenging them to gain a better understanding of world issues and complex topics.

So far six national conferences of the United Nations Model have been organized by Coalition Sega in Macedonia (2012 - 2017) and we are starting with preparations for the next 2018 MMUN Conference. This year, MMUN is changing formats, allowing for improved engagement across Macedonia. This new model will allow for youth to improve life skills while they prepare for the final conference 2018. In order for youth to participate in the conference, they must be involved in local clubs. This is where you come in, as all clubs must be led by a Club Coordinator at a local NGO in their community. We invite all organizations to establish these MMUN clubs as they are a great way to increase engagement with your organization and your work in the community.

Main responsibilities of Club Coordinators include:

  • Advertising MMUN in High Schools and Colleges in order to get more participants.
  • Teaching sessions leading up to the MMUN conference in May.
  • Interviewing for Club Leaders

  All interested candidates for Club coordinators should fit the following criteria:

·         Must be involved with organization/school

·         Organizational skills

·         Excellent English skills (writing and fluent speaking);

·         Excellent communication skills;

·         Ability to work with team.

·         Motivation (cover) letter;

Coalition of youth organizations SEGA in cooperation with the Peace Corps volunteers in Macedonia implements the Macedonia Model United Nations (MMUN) programme. This year, MMUN is changing formats, allowing for improved engagement across Macedonia. This new model will allow for youth to improve life skills while they prepare for the final conference in May 2017.

Coalition of youth organizations on behalf of MMUN announces an open call for the Secretary General position for Macedonian Model United Nations 2017.

The position is open to those who have participated in MMUN before and are between the ages of 16-25.

Pre-Conference Responsibilities for Secretary General position:

  • Review and contribute to the formulation of topics
  • Help define the schedule of the 2017 conference
  • Assist in communication to all potential participants, possibly including:
    • tips for preparation, additional resources
    • reminders of major events
    • congratulations following position papers

Conference Responsibilities for Secretary General position:

  • Open and Close the 2017 Macedonia Model United Nations Conference
  • Announcement of all resolutions passed at the 2017 conference
  • Address the Security Council, as needed, to advocate for the interests of non-member states
  • Supervise the youth assembly.
  • Other tasks as they arise.

Aiming to include the youth organizations from Macedonia in this programme, Coalition SEGA announces Call for Club Leaders

Requirements:

  • Must have previous experience with MMUN
  • Must have fluency in English
  • Must be between the ages of 14 and 25

Club Leaders are responsible for making sure their club stays organized and each participant completes required tasks. Club leaders can also apply or request to be in the Youth Assembly, or assist with the logistics for the conference in May. If club leaders do not apply for any additional positions such as an advanced participant, then they will participate as a delegate in the Security Council.

THE FIFTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE MACEDONIAN MODEL OF UNITED NATIONS 2016 WAS HELD

On 28th of May 2016 (Saturday) in organization of Coalition of youth organizations SEGA, 160 young people from Macedonia and Kosovo in role of delegates participated on the fifth annual National Conference of the Macedonian Model of United Nations that was held in the rooms of the FON University, in Skopje.

 

Coalition of youth organizations SEGA in cooperation with the Peace Corps volunteers in Macedonia, have been implementing the programme Macedonian Model of the United Nations five years in a row. The programme aims to strengthen the capacities of young people for advocacy, lobbying, diplomacy, conflict resolution, public speaking and writing. In the past four years 900 young people from Macedonia participated in this event.

Zoran Ilieski, Executive director of Coalition of youth organizations SEGA: “The primary aim of the Programme Macedonian Model of UN is to educate young people about the current social events and diplomacy of the United Nations. On this event 160 have had the opportunity to participate in role of delegates and ambassadors from different countries and to discuss of subject from global character as questions related to the migrants, child marriage, employment and world peace and security”.

  

Sara Wood, Director for programme and training of Peace Corps in Macedonia: “This is an opportunity for development and practice of the skills for negotiation, diplomatic behavior and international partnerships”.

On this Conference the work of 8 different bodies of the UN was simulated, including The Council for Security, The Economic and Social Council, UNICEF, UNDP and UNDHCR.

This conference is part of the activities of the project Macedonian Model of the United Nations that is supported by the General Secretariat of the Government of R.Macedonia.
