The Association for Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) in partnership with Coalition of youth organizations SEGA and 17 other organizations from Europe implements the project COHEIRS - “Civic observers for Health and Environment: Initiative for Responsibility and Sustainability” supported by the Europe for Citizens programme. The project has been implemented in 12 countries in Europe: Macedonia, France, Italy, Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Malta, Slovenia, Albania, Spain, Slovakia and Hungary.

The aim of COHEIRS is to support active civil participation in the democratic life of EU, and more specifically in the implementation of the principles for protection, in details described in the Article 191 from the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (EU), through establishment of civil panels with focus on health and environment.

As an end activity of the projects was realized the final international workshop in Mesagne, Italy in the period of 13 – 15 March 2014, on which 60 international and 50 domestic participants took participation.

 

  

The aim of this workshop was to sum up the national recommendations that the partner countries prepared through a consultation with the citizens for subjects connected with the environment and people’s health.

PANEL DISCUSSION "HEALTHY FOOD"

(Prilep, 25 December 2013) The Coalition of youth organizations SEGA as part of the project COHEIRS “Civic Observers for Health and Environment: Initiative for Responsibility and Sustainability” organized panel discussion on the topic "Healthy food" in the City Library Borka Taleski in Prilep.

This panel discussion aimed to raise the awareness of the citizens esspecialy among young people for the importance of taking care for their own health and healthy life styles. In this panel discussion dr. Sladzana Velkov presented the advanatages of the healthy food and healthy life stles. Additionaly, she emphasized the presentation for GMO and organic production. The participants had opportunity to discuss on the topic and as well to receive advices for improvment of their healh.

The project COHEIRS “Civic Observers for Health and Environment: Initiative for Responsibility and Sustainability” is implemented in 12 countries in Europe, including our country Macedonia, supported by the Europe for Citizens programme, and implemented by the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) in partnership with Coalition of youth organizations SEGA.

PUBLIC DISCUSSION “THE INFLUENCE OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD ON YOUNG PEOPLE – STOP FOR IMPORTING GMO FOOD IN MACEDONIA”

On 3th of December 2013 in the premises of the EU INFO Centre in Skopje, SEGA organized the final discussion “The influence of the genetically modified food on young people” as part of the project COHEIRS “Civic Observers for Health and Environment: Initiative for Responsibility and Sustainability”.

The Executive Director of the Coalition of youth organizations SEGA, Zoran Ilieski, presented the recommendations from the previous panel discussions for bigger control of food and resources imported. Besides these recommendations, it is indicated that Macedonia should not produce GMO food, the seeds and seed’s materials imported to be regularly tested, and if the import of GMO food is allowed, the packing should be labeled on visible place.

In the panel discussion in Skopje Professor Dr. Zoran Popovski manager of the department for biochemistry and genetic engineering on the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences and Food in Skopje, assistant Dr. Igor Esmerov from the faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Dr. Slagana Velkov discussed their personal views, knowledge and experience about the Influence of GMO on young people.

The aim of these panel discussions which were organized in Skopje, Prilep, Bitola and Sveti Nikole is the public to be introduced with the genetically modified food (GMO), also to explain the terms connected with GMO, the legislative of the European Union and Macedonia connected with GMO, control of the same as well as the eventual risks and consequences on the people’s health from consuming GMO.

Coalition of youth organizations SEGA, as part of the project COHEIRS “Civic Observers for Health and Environment: Initiative for Responsibility and Sustainability”) in Prilep and Sv. Nikolle has started with the panel discussions on the subject: “The influence of the genetically modified food on young people”.

The aim of these panel discussions is to introduce the public with the genetically modified food, to explain the terms connected with GMO, the legislative of the European Union and Macedonia connected with GMO, control of the same as well as the eventual risks and consequences on the people’s health from consuming GMO.

On the panel discussion in Sv Nikole professor dr. Zoran Popovski manager of the department for biochemistry and genetic engineering on the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences and Food in Skopje and dr. Slagana Velkov discussed their personal views, knowledge and experience about the Influence of GMO on young people. While on the panel discussion in Prilep, Tatjana Tasevska – engineer technician, Ruzica Jagurinoska – agronomist engineer and Martin Josheski – doctor of veterinary medicine also discussed their personal views, knowledge and experience in this field.

The Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) implements this project along with 12 partner organizations from all around Europe through the Citizen for Europe programme. The Coalition of youth organizations SEGA as partner of the project implements the activities of COHEIRS in Macedonia.

GMO AND YOUTH HEALTH – CITIZEN PANELS IN 4 CITIES

Within the COHEIRS project - “Civic Observers for Health and Environment: Initiative for Responsibility and Sustainability” in June 2013 training for multipliers in Brussels was organized. The Coalition of youth organizations SEGA participated in this training with 5 representatives. In this training the multipliers acquired knowledge and skills needed for implementation of the local thematic workshops envisaged with the project.

In the period of October – December 2013 trained multipliers from Coalition SEGA, Youth Forum Bitola, Volunteers Center Skopje, Women association of Sveti Nikole and HOPS Skopje, will organize citizen panels on the topic “The influence of the GMO on the human health, especially on the young people”.

Citizen panels will be organized in:

  • Sveti Nikole – 29 October and 19 November 2013
  • Prilep – 30 October 2013
  • Bitola – 06 November 2013
  • Skopje: 13 November, 20 November, 26 November and 3 December 2013
